Biosafety cabinets (BSCs) are tested in the field according to NSF/ANSI 49, OSHA, NIH/CDC, and manufacturer’s specifications. Generally, testing should be conducted when the units are installed, any time they are moved, or after significant maintenance, such as replacing HEPA filters.
NSF 49 recommends certification at least once every 12 months. Still, some applications may require more frequent certifications, such as a BSC used in a cGMP environment, which may require certification more frequently.
