Fume Hood Testing & Certification

Fume hood performance is evaluated using smoke tests and measuring the airflow. The ASHRAE 110 test is the most accurate and widely used standardized test protocol for fume hood performance. However, it’s vital to note that few companies have the necessary equipment and expertise to conduct this test. Montec Labs is located in British Columbia and is one of the few domestic testing companies qualified to perform ASHRAE 110 testing.

ASHRAE testing provides a comprehensive evaluation of a fume hood’s performance. This testing method is essential to ensure laboratory fume hood safety and proper functioning according to standards outlined by the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).

Tests are typically conducted in the factory where the hoods are manufactured. However, it’s important to remember that even if a fume hood passes the ASHRAE test in the factory, its performance may be affected when installed in a different environment.

Laminar Flow Hoods or Clean Benches ensure a sterile environment to protect products without releasing air into the room. Testing follows IEST-RP-CC-002-3 guidelines and includes verifying the integrity of HEPA filters, measuring air flow to ensure laminar flow, and conducting back-streaming tests to prevent non-filtered air from entering the sterile work zone.

If necessary, pre-filters are replaced.
